TOMESODE WITH KINKAKU-JI TEMPLE, SURIHAKU AND PAULOWNIA MON

The tomesode is made of medium weight crepe silk. The hem is decorated in a hand painted yuzen technique. Kyoto’s Kinkaku-ji (golden) Temple was the retirement home of a ruling shogan. It dates from 1397. It is a favorite tourist attraction and highly honored site. In this pattern plum blossoms and pine surround the golden temple. The design incorporates lots of strong colors and metallic gold and silver paint. The bodice and sleeves are lined in sheer white silk. This formal kimono has five family crests. The paulownia motif is used for the mon. This motif is associated with the imperial family and the Shogun class. The tomesode is in good condition. 49 x 61
