RINZU SILK BLACK HAORI WITH WHITE SHIBORI DESIGN

The soft silk is woven in a damask basket weave pattern for this lovely haori. The design was created in a tie dye technique called shibori. Each of the little squares that make up the pattern was created by hand. The word shiobri means to wring, squeeze or press. Rather than treating the cloth as two-dimensional surface the shibori gives it a three-dimensional form. Chu hitta kanoko is the name of the stitch used in this design. The medium dots within squares are somewhat irregular in the chu hitta kanoko tie dyed shibori. Other stitches are also used to complete the design. The haori is fully lined, the lining has some stains but these do not show on the outer jacket. 49 x 32
