EARLY TAISHO ERA MONTSUKI WITH PINE BOUGHS, SHELL GAME BOXES AND IVY MON

The silk for this formal kimono is lightweight. The hem is ornately painted in a motif of pine boughs and shell game boxes. Clamshells are used in a Japanese matching game. Matching games are sometimes the subject of woodcut prints. The ornate clamshells used in this game stored in equally ornate boxes. This kimono design is augmented by metallic gold embroidery. It also has gold cord outlines and some gold paint.. The gown has five family crests in the ivy motif. The montsuki is fully lined and has a slightly padded hem. The montsuki is in good condition. 49 x 61
